The IEEE Standards Association

The IEEE-SA is one of the largest contributors to the IEEE organization, which is the largest technical society for professionals worldwide. Through the creation, development and integration of standards, the IEEE-SA shares and applies collected knowledge of various electro and other information sciences and technology, through the development of standards for these technologies the reliability of these technologies are guaranteed.

The IEEE-SA's standards development program has been the heart of the organization for close to one hundred years. This program provides balance, structure and consensus to the industries that the standards are being developed for. The IEEE-SA votes on more than 200 standards on a yearly basis. These standards are being put to the vote for being technically reliable and solid.

Besides developing the well known 802 standard for wireless networks, the IEEE-SA also creates standards for Highway technology, generation of renewable energy and more, all in different areas of technology.

The IEEE-SA currently has more than 20,000 participating leaders in the field of technology from all around the world, from individuals to complete organizations, and universities as well as government agencies. The combined knowledge of all involved ensures the IEEE-SA is a thriving organization that excels at its diversity. This in turn reflects greatly on the integrity and worth of the standards that are being developed.

The IEEE-SA strategically partners with the IEC, ISO, and the ITU. The IEEE-SA also complies with all SDO regulations, as set out by the WTO, paving the way for international Standards.

With almost 1300 developing standardization projects in its portfolio the organization is rapidly becoming the main source for technology standards in a broad range of new upcoming sciences. The IEEE-SA welcomes individuals and organizations to participate and contribute to the development process.

The standards designed by the IEEE-SA support many of the products and services we use today especially in the area of telecommunications.
